
Spirituality is our sense of the truth about who we are and why we exist. Spirituality can play a large role in our lives, providing…strength for those who are struggling with a health concern. During times of crises, spirituality can help lessen the sense of helplessness and loss of control. Spirituality can provide a sense of purpose and a guide for living.
Within the past 10 years, scientists have been more interested in the effects of spirituality on overall health. Studies have indicated that spiritual persons are less apt to participate in self-destructive behaviors such as smoking and drug and alcohol abuse, all of which can contribute to illness.¹ They also have less stress and a greater sense of well being. Some observational studies suggest that people who have regular spiritual practices tend to live longer.²
Achieving and maintaining spirituality can be challenging for all of us. It’s easy to get sidetracked by all the pain and suffering in our world and our lives. Some suggestions to keep you on this path are below:
