Your Energy Centers Uncovered
If you allow your body to get back in balance - physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually - your body has an innate drive to heal itself.  But did you know you have invisible energy centers that run through your body which can affect all of these levels? Opening, balancing and re-aligning your energy, or Qi (pronounced 'chee'), is essential for health and well-being. The goal in energy healing is to restore harmony and balance by opening blockages within the energy system. 

You have seven main energy centers or chakras in your body.  Your physical body is encased in a seven layer bio-field which used to be called 'the aura'.  You may have heard more contemporary names such as 'my personal space' or 'my personal bubble' - by people who may not be aware that's what they are describing!

Each chakra spins into a network of energy relating to your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.  The more energy that flows throughout your body, the healthier you are, as illness in the system is caused by an imbalance or blocking of energy.1  Imbalances or blocks can be caused by stress, injury, trauma, emotional strain, tension, anxiety, etc. 

For the next few blogs, I'll teach you about each chakra.

When balancing chakras always start at the base of your spine or the Root Chakra and move up your body.  (See last week's blog for a simple chart of chakra locations.)

Your Root Chakra is located at the base of your spine and fans out to the earth in a cone shape. It's color is red. If you're feeling a lack of energy, fear, distrust, are confused or have a sense of lost security or direction, there's a good chance your root chakra is out of balance.

How to Balance Your Root Chakra

There are a few simple ways to energize and re-balance your root chakra.
  1. Calm your thoughts, relax your shoulders and take a few breaths to help release any stresses of the day.
  2. Rub your hands together briskly, like you're trying to warm them on a cold day.
  3. Place both palms, one on top of the other,  over the pelvic bone.
  4. As you slowly breathe in, imagine a brilliant red light flowing through your palms and into the base of your spine.
  5. You can also use images in nature...a vibrant red leaf, succulent cherries, sparkling rubies.  Imagine them pouring their healing color into your root chakra.
  6. Continue for a few minutes until you feel  a little more centered, or you can sense the chakra spinning in a balanced, clockwise position.
  7. When done, slowly remove you hands and thank the Universe for the energy and balance.
