The Powerful Touch
You can communicate and offer healing by touch.  Really? Really.    Lets first look at the language of touch. In a DePauw University study conducted in 2009 by psychologist Matthew Hertenstein, volunteers were able to determine emotions simply by touch.  These emotions included anger, fear, disgust, love, gratitude, sympathy, happiness, and sadness with an accuracy of 78%.   In the past, many scientists felt that touch just really offered an enhancement to verbal communication.  In some cases that's true....you probably feel closer, or more 'heard' if someone touches you while in conversation.   And perhaps surprisingly, according to researchers, it's not how your significant other touches you, but how often he or she touches you when you touch them. Strong, healthy, usually long term relationships end up being close to one-to-one.   The benefits of massage include decreased blood pressure, relaxation, and of course, human connection.

A hug offers a heart-to-heart connection. Have you ever seen the 'hug' experiment? Students  offered free hugs... watch the reaction of people.  It'll make you smile - it's on YouTube.   Touch can be a comfort to an ailing parent, or reassuring to a child in distress.   A mother's touch can also mitigate pain when children are given a blood test.   Healing Touch, a nurturing bio-field therapy, reduces pain, accelerates healing, decreases anxiety, and supports overall well-being. This energy therapy is used primarily by nurses, but other health care givers or interested people can be certified as well.   You don't have to be certified however, to be able to use or offer a healing touch. What do you automatically do if you hurt your knee (for example)? You immediately grab it with both hands.  This is an innate response, a healing response, as healing energy is most concentrated in the palms of your hands.    Or, if your loved one is frightened or hurt.... what do you do? You reach out to them - to offer the comfort of touch.  Take it one more conscious step further, and when touching them, simply set your intention for their highest good, and imagine white light emanating from your palms to your loved one.   Other touch therapies include Therapeutic Touch, Quantum Touch, Reiki, and more.   With permission, and respecting personal boundaries and cultures, reach out and touch someone.     The power you have is at your fingertips.
