Sound Therapy

“The knower of the mystery of sound knows the mystery of the whole universe”

The power of sound to heal and transform can be traced to almost every culture and every cosmology across time and history. In the Aboriginal cultures of Australia, the didgeridoo was used to sound the world into existence; in the Christian Bible, David plays the harp to ease King Saul’s depression; and in spiritual traditions throughout the globe, chanting and prayer have been used for millennia to augment and align body, mind, and spirit. Sound is a powerful, primitive force.

Pythagoras, a philosopher of the ancient Greeks, was known for contributions to mathematics as well as for his geometric theorems. His major contribution to music theory was the discovery of the arithmetical relationships, the ratios, between the harmonic intervals-the correspondence between the abstract world of musical sounds and numbers. This discovery of musical ratios (harmonic intervals) and the relationship between music and numbers was the beginning of scientific investigation.

The scientific basis for Sound Therapy could be traced back to the seventeenth century when astronomer and musician Johannes Kepler determined that the planets travel in elliptical orbits. This discovery is critical to the study of vibratory healing because it provides a precise method of calculating the rotation/movement of a planet in which a musical frequency can be exacted.

Through these frequencies we begin to find the rich harmonies of the planets to bring in the cosmic, divine energy. Kepler’s masterpiece, The Harmony of the Universe, is considered by mathematicians to be the “Song of Songs,” an unveiling of the inner mysteries of the universe. This piece is a beautiful testament to how the creator is represented in the world, in nature, and in the beauty and bounty of the heavens as symbolized and reflected through mathematics and the eternal nature of geometry. Expanding on this scientific information, the modern physicist Hans Cousto was able to mathematically calculate the paths of the planetary elliptical orbits and use them to establish their musical pitches.

In the 1960s, Swiss scientist Hans Jenny concluded, after 10 years of testing, that sound creates form, and that the human body has its own particular sound made up of the sound of the cells and organs. For example, it has been determined that slow music can slow down the heart rate, creating a sense of peace in the person listening. All of our atoms, molecules, and cells operate on a vibrational frequency. A harmonious sound, especially one focused with intent, will resonate throughout the body and bring the body’s vibrations into alignment with the sound.

This article will discuss the use of sound to treat the essential part of our nature, exploring aspects that go beyond the physical and connect with the spirit and explain how physical imbalances are associated with illness. The idea of treating original essence, uniting people with their source, is a unique concept to Chinese Medicine. The system of Acutonics has developed an integrated system of healing and education. At the center of this system are the cosmic musical intervals, which have proven to be effective in healing.

Ancient Oriental medicine physicians discovered a system of cyclic energy that flows along specific pathways, or points in the body. Each pathway is associated with a particular physiological system and internal organ. Disease arises when there is imbalance, or disharmony, along the body’s energetic pathways. These pathways, also referred to as meridians, of energy can be accessed therapeutically through touch and sound to relieve chronic conditions.

Health is all about balance. Bodies reflect everything that is going on with us. Our bodies function best when there is harmony, resonance, and balance. When the body suffers a trauma of some sort, that energy stays with us. Sound Healing is based on the idea that problems affect us on many levels. If there is a physical ailment, it can affect the emotional body as well. Sound Healing therapies move the stuck energy, and bring the body back into balance.

The system of Acutonics coordinates tuning forks that are calibrated precisely to a natural harmonic sequence based on the earth, moon, sun, and planets. These tuning forks are applied to the body on specific acupuncture points to access the body’s meridian system and allow the “Music of the Spheres” to enter and balance the disharmonic frequencies of disease. These cosmic sounds provide a vibrational link that helps souls, minds, and bodies connect back to their divine harmonies and destinies.

By connecting with the body’s natural frequencies, the resonance and vibrations experienced when using the instruments in a healing session help bring the body and spirit into alignment with natural cosmic cycles. Harmonic Attunement, in connecting the individual with the source of original harmony, sonically resets negative cellular patterns in the body, a concept known as “sound imprinting.” This modality is especially effective when dealing with the elderly, chronic illness, and debilitating conditions, where needles may not be tolerated, or may not touch the essential or emotional nature of the illness. Sound bridges the outer medicine with the inner medicine and activates a cellular remembrance of undifferentiated wholeness.

The treatment principles delivered through the sound vibrations enable the person to be balanced, tonified, and renewed within the whole system. The human body is nearly 80% water, and as sound travels four-times faster in water, it makes a perfect resonator for sound. When one applies specific frequencies, one gains access deep into the essence and marrow. By applying sound to the spaces between the vertebrae of the spine, one can access both the bones and nerves, greatly enhance the flow of energy and open up the spinal energy. This in turn, expands the spaces between the vertebral discs and creates energy cushions that protect the bones and the nerves and harmonize, nourish, and provide life-force for the entire system. It is in these spaces in between, in the still-point, that true healing occurs.

Harmonic Attunement and Acutonics has been used to treat neurological, gastrointestinal, respiratory and chronic gynecological ailments. As an overall approach, it has been successfully used to improve emotional and psychological issues as well as readjust psychospiritual energies.
